Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. requests the public’s help identifying the suspect pictured below, who cut a drug store employee with a knife after he was caught shoplifting on March 28, 2026.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., the suspect walked into Walgreens on Ferry Street with a woman and four children. The suspect, a known shoplifter, and the group began taking merchandise until the security guard spotted them. As they were escorted from the store, the employee left the register to assist. The suspect pulled out a knife and swung at the employee, cutting him on his hand before he fled west on Ferry Street.
Director Miranda urges anyone with information on the suspect’s identity to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
