Traffic Stop in Apple Valley Leads to Arrest of Felon in Possession of Loaded Firearm

INCIDENT: Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Convicted Felon
LOCATION: Kiowa Road and Ottawa Road, Apple Valley
SUSPECT(S): William Burton, 55-year-old male, Victorville
SUMMARY: On April 7, 2026, at about 12:54 p.m., deputies with the Apple Valley Traffic Bureau conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Kiowa Road and Ottawa Road on a Nissan Altima for multiple vehicle code violations.
The driver, William Burton, who is a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm that had been reported lost in Los Angeles County. Burton was also found in possession of a controlled substance without a valid prescription.
Burton was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for possession of a controlled substance while armed, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and displaying a license plate not issued to the associated vehicle. Burton is being held in lieu of $40,000 bail.
