Weather Update:
Officials continue to monitor weather conditions across the island. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue overnight into Thursday with impacts expected to last into Friday. Peak gusts over Oʻahu will be 30-35 mph Thursday through Friday. Severe weather impacts are most likely tonight through Friday afternoon.
- Flood Watch in effect until 6:00 pm Friday, April 10
- High Wind Watch in effect from Thursday morning to 6:00 am Friday, April 10
City Operations Update:
The City and County of Honolulu is carrying out a full-scale, coordinated effort to prepare for the incoming Kona low storm by activating its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on April 8 and working closely with state and federal partners. First responders are being pre-deployed to flood-prone areas, with police increasing staffing and setting up a forward command post in Wahiawā, fire crews staging for rapid response, EMS expanding to 24-hour operations with additional ambulances and specialized rescue units, and ocean safety teams positioning personnel and equipment across the island.
The City is also opening multiple emergency shelters, clearing streams, canals, and drainage systems to reduce flooding risk, and providing sand for residents to fill sandbags, while debris removal from previous storms is nearing completion.
Public transportation is currently operating on a normal schedule, including Skyline and TheBus, though delays are expected if roads become impassable; Route 521 has resumed its normal route, and Handi-Van riders are asked to cancel reservations if plans change.
Officials are advising residents to treat malfunctioning traffic signals as four-way stops, report hazards through HNL311 or non-emergency services, minimize non-essential travel to keep roads clear for emergency crews, and never drive through moving floodwaters.
Shelter Update:
Emergency shelters are now open on Oʻahu ahead of potential severe weather. Locations include Wahiawā District Park, Mānoa Valley District Park, Waiʻanae District Park, and Kāneʻohe District Park.
There are no evacuation orders at this time. Residents should monitor conditions and take action if they feel unsafe.
