AVOID I-96 at US-31 tonight (4/10) until Saturday (4/11) morning due to a road closure

Please see the following message from MDOT:
 

Total closures for bridge demolition are scheduled for 7 p.m. (Friday) through 9 a.m. this Saturday on eastbound and westbound I-96 at US-31. During this time, the ramp from southbound US-31 to eastbound I-96 will also close. Lane and ramp closures remain in effect through November on US-31 and I-96.

Bridge improvements and resurfacing start April 6 at I-96/US-31 interchange in Muskegon County

NORTON SHORES, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing approximately $7 million to improve the US-31 bridges over I-96 in Muskegon County, including resurfacing the on and off ramps at the interchange. Work includes partial deck replacement, new expansion joints, substructure improvements, approach replacement and new bridge railing.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 59 jobs.

Traffic restrictions:

Lane closures will be in effect on US-31, I-96 and US-31 BR (Seaway Drive). Intermittent ramp closures will occur at various stages, and several overnight total closures will be necessary on I-96 and US-31 BR to remove the bridge railing and part of the deck.

This project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of the bridges and interchange.
