City Storm Response Update: Heavy Rain Falling in Areas Across Oahu

Officials are monitoring heavy rain falling in areas across Oahu. Severe weather is expected to continue for at least the next few hours.

City crews are responding to reports of ponding and flooding on roadways and in streams/outlets. Most reports are concentrated on the North Shore. There are numerous road closures in the area. Avoid non-essential travel, especially in areas that are likely to experience flooding.

Do not attempt to walk, swim, or drive through flowing or rising water. Floodwaters can rise rapidly. Just 1 foot of moving water can sweep away a vehicle. If your vehicle is caught in rapidly moving water, stay inside. If water begins to rise inside the vehicle, get on the roof.

No evacuations are ordered at this time. If you live in an area that has flooded previously, be prepared to leave if conditions worsen. Leave if you feel unsafe, do not wait for official instructions.

Stay Safe:

• Be aware of nearby streams, drainage channels, roads, ditches, and other areas known to flood. Use caution when outdoors.
• Prepare your home: Keep drains and areas where water may collect on your property clear. Consider elevating valuables, large appliances, or electrical systems in areas prone to flooding.
• Check on others: If it is safe to do so, check on neighbors, especially kūpuna, individuals with disabilities, and others who may need assistance.
• Stay informed: Monitor official sources for updates and instructions, including local emergency management channels and trusted local media (TV/radio). Avoid unverified information.
