On April 11, 2026, at approximately 2:37 PM, the Gloucester Township Police Department was dispatched to Shelby Court at the La Bonne Vie community, located in Sicklerville section of Gloucester Township, for a reported residential fire.
Upon arrival, first responding officers observed flames coming from the rooftop along with heavy smoke conditions. Officers immediately began evacuating adjacent and neighboring units to ensure the safety of all residents.
Fire suppression efforts were led by Lambs Terrace Squad 85, staffed by the Gloucester Township Fire District 5. Additional assistance was provided by the Chews Landing, Blenheim, Blackwood, Erial, Lindenwold, Glendora, Winslow Township, Washington Township, and Pine Hill Fire Departments. Inspira BLS responded to provide medical support at the scene.
The fire was brought under control quickly, limiting significant damage to the primary unit, with additional damage reported to neighboring condominium units. At this time, the fire is not believed to be suspicious; however, the investigation remains ongoing by the Gloucester Township Fire District 4 and the Gloucester Township Police Criminal Investigations Unit.
As a result of the incident, two condominium units were deemed uninhabitable. The Gloucester Township Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with the American Red Cross, is assisting displaced residents with temporary housing and support services.
No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
This incident serves as an important reminder for residents to regularly inspect fire safety systems, including smoke alarms and audible alert devices, to ensure they are functioning properly. Smoke alarms are a critical component of any fire safety plan, providing early warning in the event of a fire and allowing occupants to evacuate quickly and safely. Residents are also reminded to properly dispose of smoking materials, ensuring cigarettes are fully extinguished and never discarded in unsafe conditions. In the event of a fire or other emergency, residents should evacuate immediately to a safe location and dial 9-1-1.
