Severe Weather Update 4/12

The City and County of Honolulu continues to monitor weather conditions and respond to storm-related impacts across Oʻahu. A Flood Advisory is in effect until 8:45 pm tonight and a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through 6 a.m. Monday, April 13. Periods of light to moderate rain that could be heavy at times, are expected over the next several hours, with the potential for additional flooding due to saturated ground and elevated stream levels.

  • Flood Advisory: in effect until 8:45 pm tonight
  • Flood Watch: in effect until 6:00 am tomorrow

Emergency Shelters:
Four emergency shelters remain open across Oʻahu and will continue operations through at least Tuesday due to the ongoing weather threat and potential for additional rainfall.

Shelters are open to both residents and visitors and are pet-friendly. Individuals are encouraged to bring essential items, including food, water, medications, and pet supplies. Case workers remain onsite to assist occupants with housing plans as conditions evolve.

High-Water Vehicle Deployment:
As part of ongoing response efforts, 11 high-water vehicles have been pre-staged across Oʻahu in coordination with the Hawaiʻi National Guard to support rapid response in flood-prone areas.

Vehicles are positioned on the Windward side, Waiʻanae Coast, and North Shore, with personnel from the Hawaiʻi National Guard and the Honolulu Police Department supporting operations.

City Facility Closures:
All City and County of Honolulu facilities, including the Honolulu Zoo, Waikīkī Shell, Neal S. Blaisdell Center and municipal golf courses, will reopen Monday, April 13 during normal weekday operational hours.

All city parks and botanical gardens will reopen, including all permitted activities and park classes scheduled, Monday, April 13, under their regular schedules except for the following locations:

  • Kāne‘ohe District Park
  • Mānoa Valley District Park
  • Wahiawā District Park
  • Wai‘anae District Park
  • Kalaeloa Beach Park
  • Central O‘ahu Regional Park
  • Waipio Soccer Complex
  • Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve (normally closed on Monday and Tuesdays)

A full list of City closures can be found at www.oneoahu.org/updates#cityservices

Residents are urged to exercise caution around parks, trails, and other outdoor areas during severe weather, as falling branches, slippery conditions, and flooding may pose hazards.

City crews are actively working across the island to clear debris, address drainage issues, and evaluate facilities for reopening as soon as it is safe to do so.

Community Assistance Center (CAC):

The Waialua Community Assistance Center will remain closed Monday due to ongoing weather concerns. Operations are expected to resume once conditions allow.

Transit and Services:

Transit services, including TheBus, Handi-Van, and Skyline, continue to operate on regular schedules. Trash collection and refuse services are operating as scheduled.
