Mourning the Loss of a Beloved Friend; Funeral Services for LASD Deputy Levi Vargas
Who: Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Sheriff Robert Luna, The Vargas Family, San Dimas Sheriff’s Station Captain Michael Moen, and Minister Dominic Iraldo.
What: Law enforcement officials and personnel from local agencies will join Deputy Levi Vargas’ family to honor his service and pay tribute to our brother in uniform, while mourning the profound loss of a beloved son, brother, husband, and cherished friend. Deputy Vargas tragically passed away after experiencing a medical emergency while participating in the 2026 Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay Race.

Media Notes: Calvary Chapel Chino Hills will provide camera footage of Deputy Levi Vargas’ funeral and NBC4 will provide the pool feed to LA Switch Pool 1.
The church service will be livestreamed via Calvary Chapel Chino Hills website: https://ccchmemorials.sardius.live/ and LASDHQ Facebook.
Media vans will be allowed to park at 9:00 A.M.
There will not be a gauntlet prior to the church service due to private viewings before the service. A gauntlet will be conducted at the conclusion of the church service.
Parking is limited; first come, first serve. Media Parking has been designated on the right side of the main parking lot entrance; the first row parallel to Eucalyptus Avenue (See Map).
- Per the family’s request, no media will be permitted inside the church during the service.
- No interviews will be given from the family or participants.
- A designated media staging area will be available to capture footage of the gauntlet after the church service.
- Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department PIOs will be on site to provide assistance.
- Proper media credentials must be visibly displayed at all times.
- Only credential media will be granted access to the media staging areas.
***Graveside services will be privately held. Media is not permitted at the graveside service.***
