Deputy Caleb Baliles with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 39-year-old Daniel Ted Stewart, of Old Fort, with felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle; misdemeanor Simple Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance; misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana; and misdemeanor Second-Degree Trespassing. He was issued a $20,000 secured bond.
On April 7, Deputy Baliles was dispatched to a residence in Old Fort in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, Deputy Baliles spoke with the victim, who stated Stewart had taken her vehicle after coming onto the property.
Stewart was located a short time later by deputies and with the assistance of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, on Roby Conley Road in the victim’s vehicle.
A search of Stewart and the vehicle yielded Suboxone (without a prescription), marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Stewart was placed in custody and transported to the McDowell County Detention Center for processing.
During booking, Detention Officers located additional narcotics on Stewart which led to him also being charged with felony Possession of Methamphetamine and felony Possession of a Controlled Substance on Jail Premises. His bond was increased to $50,000.
