Fatal Collision Following Stolen Vehicle Pursuit

Morgan Hill, CA – The Morgan Hill Police Department received a be-on-the-lookout (BOLO) alert regarding a stolen vehicle originating out of the City of Hollister. The vehicle was initially observed by a Gilroy Police Officer; however, it left Gilroy city limits before a traffic stop could be initiated.
Morgan Hill Police Officers later located the vehicle traveling into Morgan Hill on Monterey Road near Middle Avenue. Officers attempted a traffic stop in the 14000 block of Monterey Road, but the driver failed to yield. A second attempt to stop the vehicle was made in the 15000 block of Monterey Road. During this attempt, the suspect vehicle collided with a tree and a large dumpster near officers on scene. The driver continued to flee, and officers initiated a pursuit into the City of Gilroy.
During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle ran a red light at Monterey Road and Leavesley Road. Officers slowed to safely clear the intersection and briefly lost sight of the vehicle. A short time later, the vehicle was located after it had crashed into a center median and light pole on Monterey Road near 1st Street in Gilroy. The vehicle overturned, and its occupants were ejected.
Officers arrived on scene and located three occupants outside the vehicle. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, two individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. A third individual sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital.
The Morgan Hill Police Department extends its condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this tragic incident.
