Flood Warning until 11:00AM Thursday

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central and west central Michigan, including the following counties, in central Michigan, Mecosta. In west central Michigan, Muskegon, Newaygo and Oceana.

* WHEN...Until 1100 AM EDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1152 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. - 1 to 2 inches have fallen over the two hours over the White River and will flow back to Whitehall and Montague. Fremont, Hesperia and Newaygo have all received 2 to 4 inches of rainfall over the last few days which will cause any additional rain to be runoff. Rainfall will continue overnight into early Thursday morning. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Muskegon, Big Rapids, Newaygo, White Cloud, Muskegon Heights, Fremont, Roosevelt Park, North Muskegon, Whitehall, Montague, Lakewood Club, Hesperia, Morley, Mecosta, Canadian Lakes, Norton Shores, Dalton, Croton, Holton and Bridgeton. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
