News Release - Police Investigation Ongoing Following Criminal Threat Call

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, at approximately 2:55 pm, the Culver City Police Department received a call reporting that an individual claimed he intended to begin shooting inside the Westfield Culver City shopping center.
Officers responded immediately to the area and began a coordinated search for the suspect. Upon arrival, officers located an individual matching the provided description; however, the subject fled on foot before being detained.
An extensive search was conducted in the area of Slauson Avenue and Hannum Avenue, near the 90 Freeway. As a precaution, community members were advised to avoid the area during the active police response.
The search concluded at approximately 5:11 pm. The subject was not located, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The subject is described as a black male in his 30s.
The Culver City Police Department understands the concern incidents like this may cause and remains committed to the safety of our community. Officers will continue to actively investigate this incident.
