Advisory

Opportunity to Dispose of Old Prescription Meds

Do you have expired or unused medications? Authorities can safely dispose of them for you—completely free of charge.

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office is partnerings with Mission Hospital in a pill take-back event this Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon at Mission Hospital (see below for more information).

“Unused or expired medications often fall into the wrong hands. This event provides residents with a safe way to dispose of them,” said Captain Chris Taylor with McDowell County Drug Enforcement. “This service is free, and no questions will be asked about the medications turned in.”

This initiative helps reduce prescription drug abuse by encouraging proper disposal of medications. Prescription drugs should never be stored beyond their expiration date and should never be shared with others.

As a reminder, the Sheriff’s Office also has a medication disposal drop box available in the lobby at 593 Spaulding Road, accessible 24/7 for residents.
