Advisory

Statewide Burning Ban Remains in Effect Across South Carolina

Residents are reminded that South Carolina remains under a statewide burning ban until further notice.

According to the South Carolina Forestry Commission, the ban prohibits all outdoor burning in unincorporated areas, including yard debris burning, prescribed burns, campfires, bonfires and other recreational fires.

The restriction was put in place due to elevated wildfire risk driven by dry conditions, low humidity and gusty winds, which increase the likelihood of fires igniting and spreading rapidly.

While certain activities — such as cooking fires in proper enclosures — may be exempt, officials urge extreme caution with any outdoor flames or spark-producing equipment.

The burning ban will remain in effect until the South Carolina Forestry Commission issues an official notice lifting the restriction.

For additional information, see the attached release from the South Carolina Forestry Commission.
