San Leandro Police Arrest Suspect in February Shooting Incident

San Leandro, CA – On February 15, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m., San Leandro Police responded to the 700 block of Barri Drive regarding a shooting that had just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers learned that victims were seated inside a vehicle when a second vehicle drove past and a single round was fired at them. The round narrowly missed a one-year-old child inside the vehicle. Detectives determined the victims were not the intended target.

The investigation was led by San Leandro Police detectives, who utilized Flock Public Safety Cameras, social media analysis, and cell phone records to identify Juan Estrada, a 37-year-old San Leandro resident as the primary suspect.
On April 20, 2026, Estrada was located in San Lorenzo and taken into custody without incident. A search of his vehicle resulted in the recovery of a loaded short-barreled AR-15-style rifle with an extended magazine. Additional evidence was located during a subsequent search of his residence in San Leandro.

The case will be submitted to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for review.

“This investigation reflects the dedication of our officers and detectives to keeping our community safe and using every available tool to hold violent offenders accountable,” said Lieutenant Jeff Walton.
