DUI Suspect Arrested Following 15-Mile Vehicle Pursuit on US Highway 101
On the evening of April 20, 2026, at approximately 10:38 PM, a Petaluma Police Department officer conducting traffic enforcement near Lakeville Street and Wilson Street observed a white SUV traveling at a high rate of speed in a posted 30 mile-per-hour zone under wet road conditions. A records check revealed the vehicle's registration was suspended. The officer then observed additional traffic violations and initiated a traffic enforcement stop.
The driver of the vehicle failed to yield and instead accelerated onto the US Highway 101 northbound onramp, initiating a vehicle pursuit. The vehicle pursuit continued northbound on US Highway 101 through Petaluma and into Rohnert Park, with the suspect vehicle traveling at speeds between 50 and 80 miles per hour.
An officer with the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety successfully deployed spike strips, striking the vehicle's driver-side tires near the Santa Rosa Avenue exit. Despite the deflated tires, the driver continued into Santa Rosa at high speeds, driving erratically across multiple lanes of traffic.
The vehicle ultimately exited at Yolanda Avenue in Santa Rosa and came to a stop on Santa Rosa Avenue after the driver-side rims began sparking due to the deflated tires.
Officers detained the driver, identified as Alyssa Metzger, without further incident. Officers observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment. An open container of alcohol was also located inside the vehicle. A review of Metzger's driving record revealed a suspended driver's license stemming from a prior DUI conviction, along with multiple prior DUI-related arrests.
She was subsequently booked into the Sonoma County Jail on the following charges:
- Vehicle Code 2800.2(a) – Felony Reckless Evading of a Peace Officer
- Vehicle Code 23152(a) – Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
- Vehicle Code 14601.2(a) – Driving on a Suspended License (DUI-related suspension)
The Petaluma Police Department would like to remind the community that impaired driving poses a serious and potentially deadly risk to all roadway users. Anyone who observes a suspected impaired driver is encouraged to call 911 immediately.
