Update on Brantley County Wildfires
The Jekyll Island Authority is monitoring the current wildfires in Brantley County and participating in ongoing communications with the Glynn County Emergency Management Agency, Georgia Forestry, and other state agencies regarding any potential risk to Glynn County.
Glynn County, City of Brunswick, and Jekyll Island public safety teams remain actively engaged in supporting Brantley County as firefighters continue working to contain a large and fast-moving wildfire near Highway 82/520.
Currently, there are no evacuation orders for residents of Glynn County, including Jekyll Island.
βThere is a potential that residual smoke may move into parts of the county later today which may affect visibility and reduce air quality. Residents are encouraged to limit smoke exposure by staying indoors and avoid roadways where visibility becomes reduced.
Glynn County is also under a county-wide burn ban, including personal fires at the Campground.
Reminder, Nixle is the official emergency communication system for Jekyll Island.
Residents interested in receiving other Glynn County-wide communications are encouraged to sign up for CodeRED and Text My Gov to receive local updates on their phones.
