Due to safety concerns and out of an abundance of caution following a sinkhole, the East River Esplanade is temporarily closed to pedestrians and cyclists between East 93rd Street and East 94th Street in Manhattan.
The esplanade remains open for recreational use between East 89th Street and East 93rd Street, and between East 94th Street and East 96th Street. The ferry entrance south of the East 90th Street dock remains open. There is no continuous bike access between East 89th Street and East 96th Street.
Signage will be placed in several locations to notify esplanade users of the closure. A detour route is currently being developed and will be implemented as soon as possible.
