Incident: Traffic Enforcement of Illegal Motorcycle Results in Vehicle Pursuit

Location: N McDowell Blvd near Corona Rd
On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at approximately 2:22 p.m., a Petaluma Police Motor Officer observed a subject riding recklessly on an electric motorcycle on N McDowell Blvd, north of Corona Rd. The rider was riding wheelies on the electric motorcycle, northbound in the southbound lanes of traffic. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the electric motorcycle but the rider failed to yield.
The rider fled southeast from the area of N McDowell Blvd and Corona Rd and ultimately into the neighborhoods surrounding Kenilworth Junior High School. A vehicle pursuit was initiated when the rider was re-located in neighborhoods near the school. The pursuit was short and terminated quickly when the rider turned into the area of Kenilworth Junior High School.
The rider was later observed in the area of Dover Way and Landsdowne Way, but officers were unable to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle and at this time his identity is unknown.
The rider was observed running red lights, running stop signs, riding on the wrong side of the road, riding on sidewalks, cutting through parks and fleeing through a school campus.
The rider was described as an 18-25 year old Hispanic male adult, with black hair and a goatee. The rider was wearing a gray beanie and all black clothing.
The motorcycle was described as an all black electric motorcycle with bright orange wheels.
The Petaluma Police Department has taken a proactive approach in education and enforcement related to electric bicycles and electric motorcycles. The safety of riders, pedestrians, and other motorists is the primary focus related to our education and enforcement. The Petaluma Police Department will continue to focus enforcement to maintain a safe community for all residents.
