Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection to a June 2025 shooting incident following an investigation.
On June 4th 2025 at approximately 2:25 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 1000 block of East 10th Street in reference to a shots fired incident. Officers located a 20-year-old male gunshot victim, who arrived at the hospital in critical condition.
The case was assigned to Detective Justin Wilkers of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Wilkers identified 19-year-old Nyiem Mitchell as the suspect of the shooting incident and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
On April 21st 2026, officers executed a search warrant in the unit block of Printz Drive and located Mitchell, who was taken into custody without incident.
Mitchell has been charged with the following offenses:
- Assault (First Degree)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released on $65,000 secured-bail.
