On April 23, 2026, at approximately 6:36 p.m., Detectives with the Gang Suppression Team were patrolling the 400 block of W. Stowell when they observed a subject flee on foot.

While running from officers, the subject threw a black crossbody bag over a fence and attempted to climb over. The subject was unsuccessful and was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives located the bag in a nearby backyard and recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson firearm inside.

The subject, a 16-year-old juvenile, was arrested and booked at Santa Barbara County Juvenile Hall on multiple firearm-related charges, including possession of a firearm in a school zone.
