Update #2 on Brantley County Wildfires
The Brantley County wildfire remains highly dynamic, and moderate winds are expected to shift toward Glynn County later Saturday and Sunday.
In response to this rapidly evolving situation, Glynn County has declared a local State of Emergency to allow County officials to act quickly, support ongoing operations, and ensure resources can be deployed without delay.
Evacuation activity related to the Brantley County wildfire has reached the Glynn County line as of Friday afternoon under the direction of the Federal Incident Management Team overseeing the Highway 82 fire response.
The wildfire has grown to more than 7,500 acres, destroying nearly 100 homes since it began on Monday, and remains only 15 percent contained.
Out of caution, Glynn County has asked residents who live between Highway 82 and Highway 32 from Old Post Road to Highway 99, and those who live on and between Old Post Road and Buck Swamp Road south of Highway 82, to prepare for the possibility of evacuation if conditions worsen. Residents in these areas are encouraged to review their plans, gather essential items, and stay alert for updates.
Currently, there are no immediate evacuation orders for residents of Glynn County, including Jekyll Island.
Glynn County remains under a county-wide burn ban, including personal fires at the Campground.
