Fatal Train versus E-bike Collision
The Simi Valley Police Department is saddened to report the tragic death of a 13-year-old Simi Valley resident who was involved in a collision with an Amtrak train earlier today. The juvenile, a student within the Simi Valley Unified School District, was riding a two-wheeled motorized device southbound on the east sidewalk of Sequoia Avenue when the incident occurred at the railroad crossing located at Sequoia Avenue and Los Angeles Avenue. Preliminary investigation indicates the juvenile failed to stop in time at the crossing and was subsequently struck by the passing train. Despite emergency response efforts, the juvenile succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.
This is a heartbreaking loss for the Simi Valley community, and our thoughts are with the family, friends, and classmates affected by this tragedy. The Police Department reminds all riders—whether operating bicycles, electric bicycles, or other motorized devices—of the critical importance of remaining alert and attentive near roadways and railroad crossings. Always obey posted signals, stop when required, and ensure it is safe to proceed before crossing tracks. Taking a moment to stay aware can help prevent devastating incidents such as this.
