Burn ban remains in effect for McDowell County. Report all fires by dialing 911.
Burn Ban Remains in Effect Despite Weekend Rainfall
McDowell County emergency officials remind residents that the statewide burn ban remains in effect.
While most electronic weather stations across the county recorded between 0.25 and 0.50 inches of rainfall on Saturday, this amount is not sufficient to eliminate the ongoing threat of wildfires. McDowell County continues to experience extreme drought conditions, leaving vegetation highly susceptible to ignition.
Due to these conditions, the risk of a wildfire remains high. All outdoor burning is strictly prohibited until further notice.
County officials emphasize that citations will continue to be issued to individuals who violate the burn ban. These measures are necessary to protect lives, property, and natural resources until additional rainfall is received and the statewide burn ban is lifted.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report all fires by dialing 911.
