Update #4 on Brantley County Wildfires + Level 1 Drought Response

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has declared a state-wide Drought Response - Level 1 for public water systems using surface water and/or groundwater.

Island residents and business owners should be mindful to do the following:

  • Only water landscaping when necessary and adjust sprinklers so only grass or turf is watered and excess water does not spray buildings, sidewalks, or the street.
  • Turn off taps while hand-washing dishes, brushing teeth, etc., and check for leaks or needed repairs around your home or building.
Under a Drought Response - Level 1, outdoor water use for general landscaping may be completed between the hours of 4 P.M. and 10 A.M. while the following activities may be done at any time:
  • Irrigation of personal food gardens
  • Irrigation of new or replanted plant, seed, or turf, up to 30 days after installation
  • Drip irrigation or irrigation using soaker hoses
  • Handwatering with a hose with automatic cutoff or handheld container
Additionally, Glynn County officials have downgraded mandatory evacutations to voluntary evacuations for residents within the following areas:
  • Old Post Road to Highway 32
  • Highway 32 to Thalman Park Lane
  • Thalman Park Lane to Bladen Road
  • Bladen Road to Old Post Road
This recommendation comes from the Southern Area Complex Incident Management Team and is consistent with Glynn County’s current assessment.

A voluntary evacuation advisory remains for Glynn County residents within the following areas:

- Alpine Road
- Gilley Road
- Boones Branch Road
- Sallie Cline Road
- Mauney Street
- Chelsea Circle
- Post Road north of Highway 82
- Old Post Road north of Highway 32

Jekyll Island Emergency Response Teams are continuing to work alongside Glynn County, City of Brunswick and State officials including Georgia Forestry, to monitoring the path of the fire to determine whether additional voluntary or mandatory evacuation orders will be needed.

Currently, there remain no immediate evacuation orders for residents of Jekyll Island.

As a reminder, Glynn County remains under a county-wide burn ban, including personal fires at the Campground.
