New information center leverages integrated technologies and analysis to enhance real-time decision-making and response
Today, the Fremont Police Department is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of its Real Time Information Center (RTIC) facility. This state-of-the-art, centralized hub is designed to enhance public safety through real-time intelligence and information sharing and reflects Fremont PD’s long-standing commitment to the intelligence-led policing model and its focus on leveraging technology to better serve our community.
Following an initial rollout in May 2025, the RTIC now operates from a dedicated physical facility, is fully staffed by two specialized analysts and is equipped with integrated technologies that deliver real-time information and actionable insights to responders. By leveraging video feeds, license plate reader data, regional law enforcement databases, and public data sources, the RTIC enables faster response times, more informed decision-making in the field, and the development of investigative leads. The result is stronger crime prevention and enhanced safety for residents, businesses, and first responders.
The RTIC has already supported major investigations, including an armed retail robbery of a local jeweler during which real-time intelligence helped officers locate suspects, leading to arrests and the recovery of stolen property.
In addition to RTIC’s crime-fighting efforts, it contributes to improving operational efficiency by assessing field situations via community cameras to determine whether a police response is needed. With it, analysts can frequently determine whether vehicle accidents, road hazards, or minor disturbances require a response, allowing officers to divert to more serious calls and better address our community's needs.
The development of the RTIC was led by the Fremont Police Department (FPD) and funded by a $2.45 million Organized Retail Theft Prevention grant awarded by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC). This state funding supports local law enforcement efforts to combat organized retail theft by improving access to timely data and analytical resources that help address crime proactively.
“Today’s opening of the RTIC is the culmination of years of planning and dedication to optimizing our technology resources to benefit our officers and the community,” said Fremont Police Chief Floyd Mitchell. “Thanks to the State of California’s BSCC grant, we have finally made this happen. We are also grateful for the trust and support of City Council, City Leadership, and our community in this endeavor.”
