TOYOTA TACOMA
Criminals engage in car theft for financial gain. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, this form of crime has been on the rise, but the individual components are worth more than the entire vehicle. Nevertheless, certain parts are more sought after than others, particularly those that are easier to steal, such as Toyota Tacoma tailgates.

Theft Prevention Tips for Toyota Tailgates
  • Reasons for Targeting Tacoma's High Demand: Parts for Tacomas, particularly newer tailgates equipped with cameras, have significant resale value.
  • Quick and Easy Removal: If the tailgate is left unlocked, it can be detached in less than a minute by simply lifting it off its hinges.
  • Prevalent Theft: Numerous reports indicate a substantial number of thefts, with some regions recording dozens of incidents in a few months.
  • Your Tailgate Hose Clamp Technique: An inexpensive yet effective deterrent is installing a 1 3/4-inch stainless steel hose clamp on the right-side hinge notch, which makes it harder to lift the gate.
  • Tailgate Locks/Defenders: Devices such as the Pop & Lock Tailgate Defender or the Cali Raised LED Theft Protector shield the hinge, thereby preventing removal.
  • Tamper-Resistant Bolts: Substituting factory bolts with security screws (for instance, T30 or T40) increases the difficulty of removal without the appropriate tools.
  • Ensure the Tailgate is Locked: Although not entirely foolproof, activating your power lock or key lock helps deter quick removal.
