Advisory
On Saturday, April 25, 2026, at approximately 3:32 AM., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) personnel responded to assist Lancaster Sheriff's Station with a barricaded, armed suspect on the 2100 block of Avenida Del Mar in the city of Lancaster. During the incident, the suspect fired multiple rounds at Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) personnel, striking the Department’s tactical armored vehicle, the TacCat. This TacCat vehicle played a critical role in protecting deputies, allowing them to safely approach the residence, maintain distance, and operate with greater control during a rapidly evolving and dangerous situation. Its presence provided deputies with options they would not otherwise have, enabling them to slow the situation down and focus on de-escalation, even as the suspect continued to escalate.
Despite the immediate and ongoing threat, SEB Deputies demonstrated discipline and strong tactical coordination throughout the incident. Their response remained measured and focused, with a clear priority on protecting the community while working toward a peaceful resolution. As part of that strategy, chemical agents were strategically deployed inside the suspect’s residence in an effort to safely compel the suspect to exit to reduce the likelihood of further force. Throughout the barricade situation, Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) and SEB deputies made repeated and deliberate attempts to de-escalate while maintaining constant communication with the suspect over several hours.
Throughout the prolonged barricade, Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) members worked alongside SEB personnel to maintain consistent dialogue with the suspect over several hours. Negotiators ultimately obtained contact information for the suspect’s father, who was out of state. With his assistance, combined with efforts from CNT and SEB personnel, the suspect was persuaded to surrender peacefully.
The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance prior to being booked at Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
“I’m proud of the professionalism and restraint demonstrated by our deputies during this dangerous incident,” said Sheriff Robert G. Luna. “While facing an active threat, including gunfire directed at them, they remained focused on protecting the community and resolving the situation peacefully. Their exceptional discipline and coordination, along with the use of specialized resources such as our armored vehicle, created the time and space necessary to safely bring this incident to a peaceful resolution.”
This incident highlights the seamless coordination between Lancaster patrol deputies, crisis negotiators, and SEB personnel. It also underscores the critical role of the Department’s armored vehicles in high-risk situations. The protection afforded by the TacCat helped transform a potentially lethal confrontation into a controlled environment, allowing deputies the time, space, and safety needed to prioritize de-escalation. These vehicles not only serve as life-saving protective tools but also enhance law enforcement’s ability to respond effectively to volatile incidents, ultimately contributing to safer outcomes for both deputies and our community. Following Saturday’s incident, the suspect’s family expressed appreciation for the deputies’ efforts, noting that SEB continued working to de-escalate even as the suspect fired at them.
The Special Enforcement Bureau responds to high-risk, complex incidents that exceed the capabilities of standard patrol operations, including barricaded suspects, hostage rescue situations, active threats, and explosive-related calls. The Bureau integrates specialized teams—such as Special Enforcement Detail (SWAT), Arson and Explosives Detail (explosive investigators), HazMat Detail, Emergency Services Detail (tactical medics), and Canine Services Detail —to stabilize these situations, protect the public, and resolve them safely.
The “TacCat” is just one piece of life-saving armor available to the Los Angeles County community. The Special Enforcement Bureau uses and routinely deploys not only the “TacCat” but also other armored vehicles, including an armored advanced life support vehicle, “MedCat,” ensuring that life-saving care can be delivered by tactical medics, to personnel, suspects, and community members, in the middle of a hostile scene while deputies safely evacuate surrounding residents and restore order to situations that would otherwise put entire neighborhoods at risk.
