Free Health Screening, Friday, 5/1
The American Preventive Screening & Education Association (APSEA) will be coming to Highland Park Community Center at 220 South 6th Ave to promote awareness of diabetes and hypertension, by offering screenings and educational resources from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Highland Park 5K / Spring Street & Earth Day Fair, Sunday, 5/3
Come out on May 3 for the Highland Park 5K, Spring Street Fair, and Earth Day Fair. Whether you’re an avid runner, a casual jogger, or just looking to enjoy an in-town walk, the 5K is an event for everyone – you can register for the 5K here! Then, enjoy a beautiful day downtown for Main Street Highland Park’s Spring Street Fair, where vendors, musicians, and community groups will line the street with food, activities, and plenty more to explore. While you stroll around, be sure to stop by Sustainable Highland Park’s Earth Day Fair on No. 3rd Avenue to learn more about how you can take action to create a just, healthy, and sustainable world and then take a minute to vote on your favorite Park Partners project at the Borough table between 4th and 5th Avenues.
Learn and Create Series “Relax and Connect with Sound”, Saturday, 5/9
The Highland Park Arts Commission invites you to another Learn and Create Series event “Relax and Connect with Sound” on Saturday, May 9th from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm at the Environmental Center, 20 River Road. Come together to connect with community. In this inclusive space, we will relax with a sound bath, co create a community soundscape, learn tips to support the nervous system, and more. Feel free to bring blankets and pillows to make yourself comfortable.
Rain Garden Planting and Native Plant Giveaway, Saturday, 5/16
Join Sustainable Highland Park for a Clean and Green weekend for rain garden planting and a native plant giveaway from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm at the corner of Raritan Avenue and South 4th Avenue.
Community Cleanup and Native Plant Giveaway, Sunday, 5/17
A clean and green weekend event. Meet in the parking lot on River Road across from Harrison Avenue from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Gloves, buckets and other supplies will be provided for the cleanup and native plants will be available.
Highland Park Porchfest, Sunday, 5/17
Highland Park’s Porchfest is back with 70+ live performers on 15 porches throughout Highland Park between the hours of 12:00 – 6:00 pm. Bring a chair, and make yourself comfortable at one location, or wear your walking shoes and bop around from porch to porch. From classic rock and bluegrass to jazz, singer-songwriter, blues, hip-hop, and classical there’s something for everyone. This event is rain or shine!
Borough Council Meeting, Tuesday, 5/19
The Mayor and Council hold their regularly scheduled meetings pursuant to the provisions of the New Jersey Open Public Meetings Act, N.J.S.A. 10:4-8(b). Meetings are held in person at Borough Hall, 221 South 5th Avenue, Highland Park, NJ at 7:00 pm. As a convenience, the Borough provides the public the option to attend meetings remotely through Zoom. The meeting agenda and support materials are posted in Borough Hall and on the Borough website at least 48 hours before the scheduled meeting.
Downtown Planting Days, Thursday, 5/21 and Friday, 5/22
Main Street Highland Park’s annual downtown planting days are back for two more fun-filled days of downtown beautification (Thursday 3:00 – 7:00 pm and Friday, 11:00 am – 5:00 pm). Just stop by the Main Street HP office located at 212 Raritan Avenue to pick up your plants, your planter assignment and some snacks…while supplies last!
Memorial Day Parade, Monday, 5/25
Highland Park and New Brunswick will be jointly hosting a Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25th. beginning at 11:00 a.m. The parade will begin in New Brunswick and proceed onto Route 27 (Raritan Avenue), continuing into Highland Park and concluding at the Doughboy Monument located at the intersection of Route 27 and Woodbridge Avenue. A brief ceremony honoring fallen service members will be held at the monument following the parade.
Wellness Screenings, Tuesday, 5/26
Join nurses from Hackensack Meridian Health providing free wellness screenings and health education from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at the Highland Park Community Center, 220 Sixth Avenue. For more information, please call 732-819-0052.
Community Bike Ride, Sunday, 5/31

Fireworks in the Park, Thursday, 7/2
Residents are encouraged to attend the annual fireworks festival at Donaldson Park, South Second Ave. Festivities start at 6:00 pm with face painting, balloon artists, bounce house/slide/obstacle course for kids, gaming truck for all ages, music and plenty of food vendors. Fireworks begin at 9:15 pm. We hope to see you there!
Parkstock Outdoor Concert Series, Thursdays, 7/16, 7/30, 8/13 & 8/27
Highland Park’s popular outdoor concert series is back on Thursday nights at Donaldson Park, Grove 1 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Select food vendors will be on site.

Free Groceries from H.P. Gives a Hoot, Tuesdays, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19 & 5/26 and Wednesdays 5/6, 5/12, 5/20 & 5/27
Highland Park Gives a Hoot offers free groceries to Highland Park families in need of support. Distributions are every Tuesday & Wednesday (except holidays) from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Zone 6/Teen Center, 600 Benner Street.
Highland Park Community Food Pantry Distribution, Thursdays 5/14 & 5/29 and Saturdays 5/16 & 5/30
The Highland Park Community Food Pantry distribution takes place at the Highland Park Community Center, 220 South 6th Avenue on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 9:00 to 10:45 am and 6:00 to 7:00 pm and on the second and fourth Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Highland Park Recreation Programs
Highland Park Recreation offers a variety of adult, youth and spring programs. Families that qualify for free and reduced lunch are eligible for a 60% discount on all programs offered by the Borough.
Farmers Market
The Highland Park Farmers Market coordinated by Main Street Highland Park brings fresh, local, homemade products from farmers and vendors across New Jersey. The market is open every Friday from 11:00 to 4:00 pm in, March, November and December and until 5:00 pm from April through October. Shop for farm fresh produce, baked goods, artisanal products, and more while supporting local businesses and enjoying a vibrant community atmosphere.
