NJDEP overnight work on Washington and 14th Streets AND City daytime water main replacement work on 13th and Grand begin Monday, May 4

Rebuild by Design overnight work to begin on Washington Street and 14th Streets Monday; Plan for detours and construction noise

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has announced overnight work to relocate several water service lines as part of the Rebuild by Design Hudson River (RBDH) will take place on Washington Street between 13th and 14th Streets, and on 14th Street between Washington and Garden Streets, the week of May 4. Work will take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and is anticipated to last five nights.

The work is part of the Rebuild by Design Hudson River (RBDH) work to relocate service lines that are in conflict with the proposed Resist structure, remove and replace broken infrastructure, and relocate a hydrant on 14th Street.

A watermain shutoff is not anticipated to be necessary, however, overnight water service disruptions are possible for certain buildings in the area. Impacted customers will be advised of potential service disruptions in advance of the work taking place.

The following traffic impacts are anticipated:

Overnight, on Monday, May 4, Thursday, May 7, and Friday, May 8, eastbound 14th Street will be closed between Garden and Washington Streets. Westbound traffic will not be impacted. The road will fully reopen by 6 a.m. each morning. As per New Jersey Transit, all Hoboken bound buses will detour from Willow Avenue to 11th Street, before turning onto Washington Street to pick up the normal route south to the Hoboken Terminal.

Overnight on Tuesday, May 5 and Wednesday, May 6, there will be no parking on the east side of Washington Street between 13th and 14th Streets, to allow for a temporary shift of the travel lanes, during working hours only. The road will be restored to allow for regular traffic patterns by 6 a.m. each morning.

Residents in the area may hear construction-related noise during the overnight working hours. Noise generating activities will be limited to the greatest extent possible, and all noise levels will be monitored and documented to ensure they are within permissible limits.

Hoboken Police will be on the site during working hours to assist with traffic mitigation, garage access, detours, and pedestrian safety.

Following overnight work each morning, ongoing daytime construction activities in this work zone will continue in the fenced off area on Washington Street. Traffic patterns will not be impacted during daytime activities.

Daytime water main replacement on 13th Street begins Monday, May 4; Overnight work planned for May 13

The City of Hoboken is replacing a water main on 13th Street between Grand and Adams Streets. This work, being conducted by City contractor, The Shauger Group, is being completed within the existing NHSA work zone to reduce the need for future road closures in the area.

13th Street between Adams and Clinton Street, and Grand Street from 14th to 13th Streets, will continue to be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Garage access will be maintained for area residents. Roads will open by 6 p.m. each day. This project is anticipated to last two weeks.

One night of overnight work is required for valve replacement, which will require a water shutdown affecting some nearby residences and businesses. This work is anticipated to take place on or around the night of May 13, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Veolia will notify impacted customers in advance of any necessary shutdown.
