MARION MAN CHARGED WITH BURGLARY & KIDNAPPING
Yesterday, the McDowell County SWAT team served an arrest warrant at a Marion residence after 24-year-old Ahmad Karreim Washington allegedly held the homeowner against her will and refused to leave.
Detective Aaron Vallini with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Washington with felony first-degree burglary and felony second-degree kidnapping. He was issued a $500,000 secured bond.
The investigation began after a female victim reported that Washington had made threats against her life and would not let her leave. He was also reported to be carrying a firearm.
The victim was able to contact emergency services while inside the home, and responding personnel transported her to the hospital.
A short time later, she notified the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office of the incident, which led to the service of the arrest warrant.
“Our priority in situations like this is always the safety of the victim,” said Sheriff Ricky T. Buchanan. “We’re thankful she was able to reach out for help, and because of that, our deputies were able to respond quickly and take appropriate action. Cases like this are taken very seriously, and we will continue working to ensure those responsible are held accountable.”
Sheriff Buchanan would also like to thank McDowell County Emergency Management for their assistance with this incident.
