Elderly Woman Found by Deputies in Critical Neglect During Search Warrant; Robbery Suspects Arrested in Landers

SUSPECT 1: Wendy McBride, 62-year-old female, resident of Landers SUSPECT 2: Scott Coffman, 40-year-old male, Resident of Landers

SUMMARY:
On Monday, April 13, 2026, at approximately 3:34 p.m., Deputies R. Maldonado and E. Swink from the Morongo Basin Station responded to a report of robbery in the area of Lum Lane and North Old Woman Springs Road, in the unincorporated area of Landers. Upon arrival, deputies learned the male victim had confronted suspects who were stealing property from his residence. During the confrontation, the suspects fled and intentionally struck the victim with their vehicle during the encounter.
Deputies immediately initiated their investigation and identified the suspects as Landers residents, Wendy McBride and Scott Coffman. Deputies tirelessly investigated this incident and obtained a search warrant for an associated residence in the 3000 block of Kickapoo Trail, in Landers.
On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at approximately 11:15 a.m., deputies contacted McBride as she attempted to leave the residence in the vehicle used during the robbery. Coffman was detained at the residence during the service of the search warrant.
During the search, deputies recovered the victim’s stolen property. Moreover, deputies located an 80-year-old woman who was found in a severely compromised condition. She was in a state of extreme neglect, malnourished, without care, and in urgent need of immediate medical intervention. Deputies provided care and summoned emergency medical services. The elderly victim was transported to High Desert Medical Center for treatment.
Wendy McBride was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail on charges of PC 211- Armed Robbery, PC 245- Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and PC 368 -Elder Abuse. Scott Coffman was booked along with McBride for PC 211- Robbery.
