Rumored School Shooting at Twentynine Palms Junior High Deemed Unfounded After Rapid Sheriff’s Response

SUMMARY: On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at approximately 7:48 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Morongo Basin Station responded without delay to Twentynine Palms Junior High School following reports circulating on social media of a potential school shooting.
Given the serious nature of the report, deputies initiated an immediate and comprehensive investigation to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the campus. Deputies coordinated with school administrators, and identified the juveniles associated with the reported information. School staff and district personnel assisted in conducting searches of the juveniles’ belongings, which confirmed no weapons were present on campus.
Simultaneously, deputies contacted the parents and conducted a thorough review of the juveniles’ phones and social media accounts. Investigators found no evidence to substantiate any threat. The investigation determined the reports originated from unverified student rumors, and no credible threat ever existed. This incident was documented, and the case has been formally deemed unfounded.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department emphasizes that all reported threats are treated with the highest level of urgency. The rapid and coordinated response in this case reflects the Department’s commitment to protecting students, school communities, and overall public safety.
