Deputies Arrest Big River Woman for Assault and Violating Protective Order

DATE/TIME: Sunday, May 3, 2026, at approximately 3:31 p.m.

INCIDENT: PC 245(A)(1) - Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Not a Firearm), PC 243(E)(1)-Battery on a Spouse/Ex-Spouse/ETC., PC 273.65(A)-Violation of a Protective Order, and PC 602 - Trespassing

LOCATION: 149000 block of Winton Trail, Big River, CA

SUSPECT(S): Bonnie Couch, 69-years-old, Resident of Big River, CA

VICTIM(S): Confidential


SUMMARY: On Sunday, May 3, 2026, at approximately 3:31 p.m., deputies assigned to the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department responded to the 149000 block of Winton Trail in Big River reference an assault that just occurred.

During the investigation, deputies determined that the suspect, identified as Bonnie Couch, assaulted the victim by striking him several times in the face.  Following the physical altercation, Couch exited the residence, entered her vehicle, and accelerated toward the victim, nearly striking him with her vehicle. 

Further investigation revealed the victim is protected under an active court issued order of protection, which prohibits any contact by Couch.  Deputies took Couch into custody on the above mentioned charges without further incident.


Couch was transported to the West Valley Detention Center for booking.  In addition to the assault and violation of a court order, Couch was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest for H&S11377(A)-Possession of a Controlled Substance. Couch remains in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department with a bail amount of $66,000.00, awaiting a court hearing.  This investigation is ongoing.
