Suspicious Subject Arrested Following Foot Pursuit and Drone Assistance
On May 5, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Simi Valley Police Department dispatchers received a call from a concerned citizen reporting a suspicious individual looking into vehicles near North Calle La Sombre and East Via Alegre.
Responding officers located the subject, later identified as 33-year-old Simi Valley resident Jaroslav Hriancik Jr. Hriancik matched the caller’s description of wearing an Amazon delivery vest, latex gloves, and carrying a large backpack. Upon seeing officers, Hriancik fled on foot, leading officers on a pursuit through a nearby neighborhood.
During the incident, Hriancik was observed climbing onto rooftops in the 5800 block of Fearing Street and moving from roof to roof. Officers established a perimeter and, with the assistance of the Department’s Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), were able to safely track and contain him on a rooftop.
After a brief standoff, Hriancik surrendered without incident. A search of the surrounding area did not reveal any vehicles or residences that had been burglarized.
Hriancik was subsequently arrested and booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Center for violating Penal Code section 148(a)(1) – resisting a peace officer, an outstanding felony warrant, and a Postrelease Community Supervision (PRCS) hold.
This incident highlights the strong partnership between the community and the Simi Valley Police Department, as well as the effective use of technology in preventing crime and ensuring public safety. The Department encourages residents to report suspicious activity by calling the non-emergency line at (805) 583-6950 or dialing 911 in emergency situations.
