Deputies Arrest Two Men for Outstanding Warrants and Find Drugs During the Booking Process; Additional Charges Added

INCIDENT: PC 4573(A) - Bring a Controlled Substance into a Jail/Prison and H&S 11395(B)(1) - Possession of a Controlled Substance with Two or More Priors
LOCATION: 1111 Bailey Avenue, Needles, CA
SUSPECT 1: Michael Mahoney, 56-year-old Resident of Riverside, CA
SUSPECT 2: Luis Barrios, 50-year-old Resident of Riverside, CA
VICTIM(S): STATE OF CALIFORNIA
SUMMARY: On Monday, May 4, 2026, at approximately 7:13 p.m., deputies assigned to the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department responded to a call for service near the 300 block of Bazoobuth Street in Needles.
During the investigation, deputies contacted two individuals identified as Michael Mahoney and Luis Barrios. A records check revealed both subjects had outstanding warrants for their arrest.
Mahoney was found to have an outstanding warrant for H&S 11364(A) - Possession of Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia and Barrios was found to have an outstanding warrant for PC 530.5(A) - Identity Theft.
Further investigation determined Barrios was in possession of a suspected controlled substance. Due to several prior drug related arrests, Barrios was additionally charged with H&S 11395(B)(1) - Possession of a Controlled Substance with Two or More Prior Convictions.
Both Mahoney and Barrios were arrested and transported to the Colorado River Station jail for processing.
During the booking process, Mahoney was found to be concealing a suspected controlled substance on his person. Mahoney was subsequently charged with PC 4573(A) - Bringing a Controlled Substance into a Jail or Prison.
Mahoney and Barrios were later transported to the High Desert Detention Center for booking. Mahoney remains in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department with a bail amount of $50,000.00, awaiting a court hearing. Barrios remains in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department with a bail amount of $150,000.00, awaiting a court hearing.
