The time has come for the newest recruit class to graduate from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Academy after 22 weeks of grueling preparation, intensive training, and academic rigor. The Academy is known as one of the best law enforcement training facilities in the world. Only a select few with the grit and resiliency to power through the training program will walk across the stage at graduation.
Recruit Class #489 represents a new generation of leaders, ready to serve Los Angeles County and our surrounding communities. The ceremony will begin with a uniform inspection of the recruits, led by Sheriff Luna and participating agency Police Chiefs. With their family and friends admiring their accomplishments in a moving ceremony, recruits will be sworn in with their new title: Peace Officers for the State of California.
What: Sheriff Luna will be joined by esteemed representatives from 4 participating agencies of Los Angeles County in swearing in the 41 graduates, comprised of 26 males and 15 females, of Academy Class #489.
When: Thursday, May 7, 2026
Graduation ceremonies to begin at 4:00 P.M.
Where: STARS Center (Memorial Wall Courtyard)
11515 S. Colima Road, Whittier CA 90604
Media Note: Though all graduates answered the call to serve, Academy Class #489 is diverse in their professional experience, cultural backgrounds and personal histories. Of the (41) graduating recruits, (21) recruits speak a language other than English, including Spanish. Several (4) of the graduates were born outside of the United States, in countries ranging from Australia to Brazil. The graduates are highly educated, with (13) earning a Bachelor’s degree or higher. (4) served in the military, and (5) have previous backgrounds in law enforcement. Many come from law enforcement families and are continuing the tradition of service (21). The paths that led them to the Academy are all equally captivating and sure to inspire the generations that will follow.
The graduating recruits are willing to participate in media interviews.
