ARRESTS MADE IN ONGOING MURDER INVESTIGATION
Newark, California (Wednesday May 6, 2026)
On Sunday, February 01, 2026, at approximately 3:38PM, Newark Police Officers responded to a residence on Mulberry Street to investigate a homicide. The victim was identified as 36-year-old Daniel "DJ” Ledesma, of Newark.
Since the incident occurred, Newark Police Detectives have worked tirelessly to identify and locate those responsible for this senseless act. On Wednesday May 6, 2026, Detectives arrested Raina Capuchin, a 30-year-old resident of Tracy, and Albert “AJ” Sanchez Hernandez Jr., a 27-year-old resident of Newark, in connection with the murder.
Investigations of this nature are often complex, and time intensive, requiring investigators to carefully examine evidence and follow up on leads, ensuring every detail is thoroughly reviewed. While these cases can take time, our priority remains conducting a complete and thorough investigation, protecting the integrity of the case, and seeking justice for the victim and his family.
At this time, investigators do not believe this was a random act, as the suspects are known to the victim. Although arrests have been made, the investigation remains active and ongoing as Detectives continue to pursue all leads related to this case.
Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in also locating 32-year-old Matthew Joseph Aguirre, who is currently wanted on an outstanding warrant related to the murder. Aguirre is a potential public safety risk and should be considered armed and dangerous. In an effort to assist in locating him, the Newark Police Department is releasing Aguirre’s photograph and asking anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact 911 or their local law enforcement agency immediately. Information may also be provided anonymously through the Anonymous Tip Hotline at 510-578-4965.
We appreciate the community’s continued support and vigilance. The Newark Police Department would also like to thank the Tracy Police Department for their assistance and support throughout this investigation.
