The Brantley County Wildfires are now 85% contained and are primarily impacting the communities of Waynesville and Atkinson, Georgia.
Winds will increase today ahead of an approaching cold front with wind gusts up to 25 mph. There is a possibility of thunderstorms this afternoon that brings the chance of lightning and the potential for even stronger winds.
The increased wind has also brought smoke to areas of the county including Jekyll Island. Those with respiratory issues should reduce outdoor activities until smoke dissipates.
Jekyll Island Emergency Response teams will continue to work alongside supporting agencies until Glynn County is no longer impacted.
While the state-wide burn ban has been reduced from 91 counties to 17, Glynn County remains under a county-wide burn ban, including personal fires at the Campground.
