Sheriff Clint Roach reports that on 05/07/2026 at approximately 1651 hours, his deputies of the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a single vehicle crash on Bertrand Rd near Batchelor Rd., Milton Township, Cass County Michigan.
The investigation showed that a vehicle driven by Margaret Matzinger (86 years old from South Bend, IN) was eastbound on Bertrand Rd. when she appeared to suffer a medical issue causing her to run off the roadway and hit a mailbox.
Matzinger was transported by SMCAS EMS to Lakeland Niles Hospital.
Assisting agencies on scene were SMCAS EMS and Niles Township Fire Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
