Officer-Involved Shooting in the 1200 block of 9th Avenue
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred around 3:15 a.m. on May 8, 2026, in the 1200 block of 9th Avenue. OPD officers on patrol initiated a vehicle stop, and during the stop, a firearm was observed in plain view.
The suspect vehicle attempted to flee, dragging one officer and pinning another between the suspect vehicle and a parked car. An officer then discharged their department-issued firearm, striking the suspect. Officers performed life-saving measures to assist the suspect until paramedics arrived.
Both officers were transported to an area hospital and are in stable condition. The suspect was also transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
In accordance with OPD policy, the officers involved in the incident will be placed on paid administrative leave.
Consistent with OPD policy, the OIS is under both criminal and administrative investigation by the Oakland Police Department. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the Community Police Review Agency (CPRA) are conducting independent investigations.
