INCIDENT TYPE: Shooting Investigation Update
OFFICER SUBMITTING RELEASE: Thomas Hover, Chief of Police; Cpl. Carmela Ogden, PIO
DETAILS: The Amarillo Police Department continues to investigate the shooting incident that occurred in the area of 7th Avenue and South Polk Street during the early morning hours of May 8, 2026.
As a result of the investigation, two individuals have been arrested.
Dylan Black, male, age 24, and Carlos Noel Martinez, male, age 18, were both identified following a reported altercation which ultimately led to their arrest.
During the investigation, officers recovered two firearms believed to be connected to the incident.
At this time, investigators have not identified any victims struck by gunfire during the incident.
Both individuals were booked for weapons offenses. Black was booked into the Randall County Detention Center. Martinez was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.
This investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

DETAILS:
During the early morning hours of May 8, 2026, Amarillo Police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the downtown area near the 100 block of SW 7th.
Officers secured the area and detained multiple individuals during the investigation. Evidence was recovered at the scene, including firearms.
At this time, no injuries have been reported. The investigation remains ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
