San Mateo, CA – On May 9, 2026, at approximately 6:26 p.m., officers from the San Mateo Police Department responded to the 300 block of S. Humboldt Street regarding a report of a verbal disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers learned that during a verbal altercation, an adult male, identified as Elio Argueta Benitez, struck another adult male in the head with a stick, causing visible injury.
Argueta Benitez was detained at the scene. Based on the probable cause established during the investigation, he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, not a firearm. The victim was medically treated at the scene and declined further medical treatment.
