FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATING SHOOTING INCIDENT WITH INJURED PARTIES AT THE FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP VFW.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The investigation into the Fruitport Township VFW Shooting incident remains active as detectives continue interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance and cellphone video from the scene. Investigators believe multiple individuals discharged firearms during the disturbance outside the VFW Hall, where a post-prom party was taking place. Investigators have determined that the incident stemmed from a dispute between two or more parties in the business parking lot and was not an active shooter situation.
Four individuals who suffered gunshot wounds were transported to Trinity Health in Muskegon and treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Two additional individuals were struck by vehicles during the chaos in the roadway, including one person who sustained serious injuries.
The investigation involves the Fruitport Township Police Department, multiple Muskegon County law enforcement agencies, and assistance from the Michigan State Police.
Police continue to seek witnesses and are asking anyone with information, photos, or video related to the incident to contact investigators.
