Sheriff’s Office has one in custody in reference to early morning shooting
Shortly before 6 a.m. on May 15, 2026, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call regarding a gunshot victim at Magnolia Park Apartments, in Burton. While deputies responded to the scene we received further information that involved parties, left the area in a vehicle to possibly seek medical attention.
Deputies made contact with the vehicle near 3500 Trask Parkway. The driver pulled over and fled from the vehicle leaving the victim in the vehicle. Deputies made contact with the female victim in the car who was suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies called for medical assistance and tended to the victim until Beaufort County EMS arrived to transport her.
Deputies quickly set up a perimeter in the area to search for the driver. The male was located shortly after on a nearby property and taken into custody with no further incident.
The circumstances that led to this incident are still under investigation. Preliminary information appears that this was a domestic related incident.
Law enforcement presence may still be observed in the area of Magnolia Park Apartments and in the area of 3500 Trask Parkway in relation to this case, but there is no ongoing threat to the public.
