Issued By:
Sergeant Ronnie Flores, Petaluma PD, (707) 778-4450, [email protected]
On Wednesday, May 14, 2026, at approximately 1:38 p.m., officers with the Petaluma Police Department responded to the Wells Fargo Bank located in the 300 block of South McDowell Boulevard for a reported attempted robbery that had just occurred at an ATM.
The victim reported he was withdrawing money from the ATM when an unknown male suspect suddenly approached him from behind, physically collided with him, and demanded his money. The victim appropriately defended himself, resulting in a brief physical altercation before the suspect fled the area on foot. The victim sustained a minor injury during the incident but declined medical treatment.
Officers immediately responded and established a perimeter with assistance from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, Henry-1. During the search, dispatch received additional information that a subject matching the suspect’s description had committed a theft at a nearby business and was actively being followed by a witness providing real-time updates.
Henry-1 tracked the suspect as he fled toward the Petaluma Community Center and nearby baseball fields. Officers established a second containment perimeter and ultimately located and detained the suspect without incident. The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Aiden Kohn of Sonoma County.
During a probation search of Kohn’s property, officers located clothing items matching the descriptions provided by witnesses and the victim as well as suspected stolen merchandise.
Surveillance video from Wells Fargo later showed Kohn physically confronting the victim while attempting to grab money from his hands and wearing the same clothing recovered from Kohn’s backpack.
Kohn was on Sonoma County probation for prior theft-related offenses and was ultimately arrested for attempted robbery, violation of probation, and theft-related charges. He was later booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the witnesses who promptly reported information and assisted officers during the investigation as well as the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. Their quick actions and detailed updates significantly contributed to the safe apprehension of the suspect.
Media inquiries should be directed to Lieutenant Zilverio Rivera at (707) 781-1277.
