Hazardous Conditions Expected on Oahu this Afternoon
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect. Hazardous weather conditions including heavy rain, lightning, and thunderstorms are expected to continue over Oahu for the rest of the afternoon. Storms can produce extremely high rain rates and flash flooding.
Stay off the roads if possible. Use extreme caution if you need to drive. Do not enter flood waters.
- Turn around, don’t drown! Do not attempt to walk, swim, or drive through flowing or rising water. Floodwaters can rise rapidly. Just 1 foot of moving water can sweep away a vehicle. If your vehicle is caught in rapidly moving water, stay inside. If water begins to rise inside the vehicle, get on the roof.
- Use extreme caution outdoors. Do not cross flooded streams. Streambeds that appear dry can quickly flood due to rain upstream, even if it is not raining where you are.
- Be aware of the risk of electrocution. Do not touch electrical equipment if it is wet or you are standing in water. If it safe to do so, turn off electricity to prevent shock.
Assembly areas are available at Kahaluu Community Park and Kahuku Elementary School for residents who are impacted by the closures along Kamehameha Highway. Assembly Areas are parking lot or outdoor waiting area for people evacuating or unable get home. No services; may have restroom access. Visit https://p.veoci.com/hnlshelter for details.
