OPD Crime Reduction Team East recovered several firearms in two East Oakland investigations on May 18, 2026.
During the first investigation, officers saw an individual carrying a firearm near School Street and Pleitner Street. As officers attempted to detain the individual, the person ran and threw the firearm. Officers recovered the firearm but did not locate the individual.
During the second investigation, CRT East officers saw multiple people with firearms near 23rd Avenue and East 22nd Street. Officers from CRT East, CRT West, and Ceasefire collaborated to detain the armed individuals and recovered four firearms, including one assault weapon. Officers also recovered narcotics they believed were possessed for sale.
