WEATHER ALERT: STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE TODAY 5 PM – 9 PM
The next several hours will remain hot and quiet for outdoor plans. Conditions will abruptly change later this afternoon as a robust storm system moves into the area from west to east, bringing numerous downpours and thunderstorms, potentially forming into a more organized line of storms. The hot and unstable air mass in place will increase the potential for some storms to become strong to severe, with a greater-than-normal threat for damaging winds capable of downing trees and power lines. Any storms will also be accompanied by heavy rainfall, which may lead to brief roadway ponding. The main threat from storms and downpours will be relatively short-lived and should exit to the east by late evening, with only a few lingering showers decreasing overnight.
