ESCONDIDO – On Wednesday, May 20, at approximately 2:14 p.m., officers with the Escondido Police Department responded to the area of East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street for a report of an assault that had just occurred.
Upon arrival, officers located an elderly male suffering from significant injuries. A bystander who intervened during the incident was also injured. Officers learned the suspect had fled the area on foot prior to their arrival.
Officers conducted a search of the surrounding area and located an individual matching the suspect’s description near East Mission Avenue and Begonia Street. The suspect was positively identified and taken into custody without incident. He was identified as Thomas Caleb Butler, a 32-year-old resident of Escondido. Detectives responded to assist with the investigation.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in critical condition. Butler was later booked at the Vista Detention Facility for attempted murder (Penal Code 664/187(a)).

Al llegar, los oficiales localizaron a un hombre mayor que presentaba lesiones significativas. Un transeúnte que intervino durante el incidente también resultó herido. Los oficiales se enteraron de que el sospechoso había huido a pie del lugar antes de su llegada.
Los oficiales realizaron una búsqueda en el área circundante y localizaron a una persona que coincidía con la descripción del sospechoso cerca de East Mission Avenue y Begonia Street. El sospechoso fue identificado positivamente y detenido sin incidentes. Fue identificado como Thomas Caleb Butler, un residente de Escondido de 32 años.
